Why join?
The Club provides its members advice, support and community education
in responsible dog ownership and canine welfare. Through the experience
of its instructors, it can help dog owners with:
- dog obedience
- canine health eg. ticks, flea control, vaccination
- dog laws and all aspects of the Companion Animals Act 1998 (NSW)
- general well-being of your dog eg grooming, feeding
- dog behavioural problems
Members also receive editions of the NSDTC newsletter Yaps
& Yelps which provides articles of canine interest and
keeps members informed of all happenings and events within the Club.
How to join
At your first visit you will be required to submit your Membership
Form and Dog Profile Form,
pay the membership fee and present a current Vaccination
Certificate for your dog.
On joining, each member is given a Name
Badge with your name and your canine friend's name, which you are
required to bring each week to class. At each class you will also
be required to pay the Ground Fee (see table opposite), payable
at the beginning of each class.
Classes
Beginners/Pre-Novice (First Class)
- correct use of collar & lead, tone of voice, encouragement
and praise
- use dog's name to get attention - eye contact
- sit and stand commands
- heel on lead including turns
- come command
- grooming
Advanced First Class
- heel on loose lead, normal and fast pace
- sit and stand
- left & right turns
- stand for examination beside dog
- sit stay
- grooming
Second Class
- heel on loose lead, fast, slow and normal
- automatic sit
- signals to be taught
- down - first from sitting, then stand, then in one action
- comefore
- stay in all positions
Third Class
- heel on loose lead, all paces
- automatic sit
- stay in all positions
- heel free
- recall on lead and one type of finish
